Cathy has over 25 years’ experience in commercial property law. She has acted on major investment acquisitions, financing, and development projects as well as advising on landlord and tenant issues in offices, retail, industrial parks, leisure and mixed-use developments.

She has acted for a broad range of clients including private property companies in managing their portfolio, listed corporations relocating in the City, and start-up businesses taking leases for the first time.

Cathy’s work often involves co-ordinating with tax, insolvency, and other professional advisers to ensure transactions are managed efficiently and risks are properly addressed. She also works with corporate colleagues who require property advice as part of a larger commercial transaction.

Experience

  • Acted on the acquisition of a £28m headquarters building in London.
  • Advised a large international corporation on its lease of new London headquarter premises.
  • Acted on the sale of an £80m Oxford Street store.
  • Advised on multiple leases in major shopping centres across the UK on the launch of a toy retailer franchise.
  • Advised on the property aspects of the acquisition of a London theatre.
  • Acted for a global insurance broker in connection with its UK corporate acquisitions.
  • Advised on property management agreements and ancillary property documentation for a major London development.
  • Acted for a private corporation in connection with the management and leasing of its property portfolio in London and the counties to a variety of tenants including government agencies, a global energy company, retail occupiers and financial advisers.
  • Advised a privately owned Mayfair property owner in connection with complex leasehold structures and lettings of properties in and around Bond Street to luxury fashion houses and galleries.
  • Advised small and mid-sized independent property companies on ongoing management work in a variety of sectors, in particular, local retail and hospitality outlets.
  • Advised and acted on residential block management and the sale of freehold reversions.
  • Acted for a nationwide leisure operator on the acquisition of a portfolio of bars and nightclubs in London.
  • Acted for a start-up workspace operator on the acquisition of two new London sites.
  • Acted for and advised small businesses on the acquisition of leases for start-ups.
  • Advised on leasehold structures and complex multi-title site assembly, compositions, and fragmentations.
  • Acted for a Midlands-based commercial developer and asset manager on the acquisition and disposal of various commercial and industrial properties including industrial estates and shopping centres.
  • Advised on various elements of acquisitions and developments including clawback agreements, conditional sales, joint venture agreements, and construction contracts.
  • Acted for banks and borrowers on portfolio refinancing as well as secured lending.

Cathy advises on a variety of development projects ranging from small conversions to major London developments.

Experience

  • Advised on property management agreements and ancillary property and construction documentation for a major London landmark development.
  • Acted for a Midlands-based commercial developer on all aspects of a housing development involving the initial acquisition, settling all construction documentation, section 106 Agreements, utilities contracts, and sales agreements.
  • Acted for prospective investors on the acquisition of an ongoing golf and recreational development project involving complex conditional sale and purchase contracts.
