A fast-growing UK law firm has set up its first offshore office in Guernsey. Keystone Law founded in London in 2002, brands itself as the UK’s leading dispearsed law firm – its fee earners are essentially freelancers, commonly working from home or client offices, offering greater flexibility.

Keystonehas set up an office in Cornet Street and is led locally by John Stephens, who joined from Spicer and Partners. The firm’s focus is on Guernsey-based clients, offeringinward investment advice across all the practice areas.

Following on from a successful campaign to recruit 50 new lawyers from tier firms, international expansion is the next stage of the Keystone growth strategy.

‘Our new Guernsey office marks the start of our move towards international expansion and our sights are set further afield for the launch of the next international office,’ said managing partner James Knight. It is an exciting step to open up an office in GUernsey and to be able to offer offshore clients the expertise of our lawyers across all areas of law.

Mr Stephens is a property expert, having worked with Spicer and Partners locally and previously in the property departments of major firms in the City. He has particular expertise in inward investment to the UK, secured lending on UK assets and offshore commercial lending in deals up to £240m.

‘John’s expertise in commercial property and investment mean he is perfectly placed to head up our Guernsey office,’ said Mr Knight. ‘Now, more than ever, Keystone is able to meet the needs of offshore clients looking to invest in, develop or lend against UK property.
