Banking & Asset Finance

Advised an Indian bank on the enforcement of two panamaxes and on related arrest procedures in China and in the Netherlands.
Advised an Indian shipowning group on the refinancing of their US$50 million term loans in the bulk carrier segment, negotiating an exit with their existing lender and advised on the structuring of an ijara lease finance transaction with a Middle Eastern lender.

Commercial

Advised a hotel chain on a number of operational matters for hotels under various brands in the UK, Europe, Middle East and India.
Advised a multinational Indian company on its sponsorship of a Formula 1 team.
Negotiated the nationwide WiMAX infrastructure deal in Pakistan.
Advised a listed Bangladesh Bank (AB Bank) in connection with a US$20m fraud committed via a bank in Abu Dhabi. Reported judgment in connection with application for a Norwich Pharmacal Order, commenced fraud investigations and substantive proceedings against the fraudsters in London.
Advised the Government of the Maldives including producing a report on the collapse of its international airline Air Maldives.

Construction & Projects

Advised AMEL C1 on the construction of an airport link metro line between New Delhi Airport and New Delhi city station including tunnels and stations. Provided advice in respect of claims for extension of time and additional costs arising from variations and unforeseen ground conditions.
Advised a project sponsor and financier in relation to a BOOT water supply and sewerage project in Tamil Nadu, India, the first privately financed water project in India, including drafting the construction contract.
Advised a multinational bank and the IFC on the financing of the Gul Ahmed power generation project in Pakistan, including construction of the power generation plant and related facilities.
Advised the IFC on the proposed privatisation of the Faisalabad Area Electricity Board, as part of the energy sector reform carried out by the Privatisation Commission in Pakistan.
Advised the Government of Nepal on a framework power purchase agreement and related power projects.
Acted for Indian main contractors in relation to the defence of claims arising from the catastrophic failure of an 80km pipeline which was part of a larger seawater cooling system being constructed at the Laffan Refinery in Qatar.

Corporate

Advised a project sponsor and financier in relation to a BOOT water supply and sewerage project in Tamil Nadu, India, the first privately financed water project in India, including drafting the construction contract.
Advised one of India’s largest multinational corporations in connection with the challenge of an ICC Arbitration Award in the High Court relating to the right to recover third-party litigation funding under the English Arbitration Act 1996. The case is now set as being the first-ever English legal precedent for the recovery of third-party litigation funding under the English Arbitration Act 1996.
Advised a multinational bank and the IFC on the financing of the Gul Ahmed power generation project in Pakistan, including construction of the power generation plant and related facilities.

Employment

Acted for Jetair UK Limited and Jet Airways (India) Limited in relation to all employment matters including union recognition.
Acted for Honda and Force India Formula 1 racing teams on a range of employment-related issues.
Advised a senior employee on his exit from, and settlement agreement with, an Indian oil and gas company which ended up being an amicable departure.

Insurance

Represented the board and its insurers of Satyam, India‘s largest IT company, in a fraud regulatory investigation.
Acted as coverage and global strategy counsel to Canadian, US, European and Indian D&O reinsurers in respect of a regulatory investigation of a high-profile Indian IT company, India’s Enron.
Acted for the reinsurers of Makalu Air Private airline in respect of coverage issues pertaining to the accident at Simikot Airport, Nepal, in 2010.
Acted for the reinsurers of Tara Air in respect of coverage issues pertaining to the accident of a Twin Otter aircraft at Lamidanda Airport, Nepal, in 2010.

Mediation & ADR

Acted for a large Indian telecommunications company in arbitration proceedings relating to rights to a sub-marine cable.

Planning & Environment

Acted on behalf of the Indian, French and Russian governments in a major planning application in Kensington and Chelsea (now in the Court of Appeal).

Restructuring & Insolvency

Advised a lessor in relation to the recovery of aircraft in respect of the bankruptcy of Jet Airways in India and filing of claims.

Tax

Advised a large Indian bank in connection with a syndicated loan arranged by one of the largest banks in Russia.
